Areas of Specialized Treatment
ARTICULATION / PHONOLOGICAL PROCESSES - Articulation is the way speech sounds are produced and Phonological Process disorder is a pattern of errors that affect multiple sounds. Through evaluation, the specific issue will be identified and effectively treated through evidence based techniques.
Examples:
Articulation: A child says “thleep” instead of “sleep” or “pay” instead of “play”.
Phonological Processes: A child says "dod" instead of "dog" or "tat" for "cat".
SPEECH DELAY (Late Talker) - A Late Talker may be a child who is about 2 years-old who’s saying fewer than 50 words and isn't putting words together yet to request something or make a comment. They may be masterful at leading you to the desired object by pulling your hand and pointing. Frustrations occur when you can't identify what it is exactly they are requesting and melt-downs ignite. A typically developing 2-year-old who has mastered about 300 words will start to put them together into very short sentences like “Mommy watch" or “More juice". All children have different strengths and weaknesses and Late Talkers may be strong developmentally in all other areas. They simply need the support to start using words to communicate wants and needs.
